  • Interacting With The Media (Reality Check, NY)
    Helpful advice learned from working with the media both in press conference and less structured settings. This will be a hands on session with examples presented and opportunities to practice some new skills. Hone your media skills for the 1pm Rally!

  • Act Out (Reality Check, NY)
    Street theatre and other forms of dramatic or musical expression will be explored, focused on activities that can complement rallies and protest. Some examples will be presented and then we will create some originals that can be used during our rallies today and tomorrow.

  • Preparation for rally (Essential Action)
    Make posters, signs and street theatre props for the 1pm Rally!

A continuation of morning ice breaker exercise; split into small groups, with teens from all states attending; share information about cool campaigns have done that really target the tobacco industry, activities at the international level, etc

4:00 - 5:00 Skillbuilding workshops

  • How to Create Your Own PSAs and Media (Dover Youth to Youth, NH)
    Participants in this workshop are taught the basics of the process of creating original media using an 8 step approach. Program includes pros and cons of 4 common message strategies, creative approaches to development, and an interactive portion where these principles can be applied. Samples of video, radio and other media are used for examples of different approaches.

  • Guerilla Marketing and Anti-Tobacco Work (Strive Media Institute, WI)
    Guerilla marketing is a low-cost, high-impact strategy to get your message out. Hear about some creative ideas teens from Wisconsin used to market their anti-tobacco campaign, FACT. Learn how to create a 'zine of your own to target a nontraditional audience.

  • Preparation for shareholders meeting (Essential Action)
    Last minute poster and prop making for the rally outside of Philip Morris/Altria the next morning

5:00 - 6:00 Overview of PM/Altria rally & inside scenario

Discuss logistics for next day, what to expect, what to bring, role play media interviews, interaction with shareholders/security guards, practice chanting, etc.
